Hemis / Occasion dressing
An occasion has a setting.
You have a point of view.
Refined Indian and Western formalwear, approached through the individual rather than an imposed uniform for every celebration.

Personal formality
Knowing the room.
Knowing yourself.
Consider the time of day, the host, the cultural context, the temperature, and how long you will be on your feet. A garment should belong in that setting while retaining the character of the man who wears it.
For Indian occasionwear we consider length, collar, closure, layering and surface. For Western eveningwear we consider dress code, lapel, cloth and restraint. Neither direction is inherently more formal or appropriate; it depends on the event.
The formal vocabulary
Five distinct ways to dress.
01 / The bandhgala +
High-collar dressing can range from sharply tailored and minimal to textural and ceremonial. The shoulder, collar height, fastening and jacket length determine its ease and presence.
Explore: short or long proportion, collar shape, textile surface, decorative restraint and tailored trouser pairing.
02 / The sherwani & achkan +
Longline silhouettes are a dialogue between proportion, fabric fall and ceremonial context. Weight, ease at the upper body and layering beneath the garment should be considered before decorative detail.
Explore: hem length, front line, shape through the waist, layering and cloth movement.
03 / The tuxedo +
Black tie has its own vocabulary. A tuxedo may be restrained or distinctive, but coherence between jacket, shirt, trousers and accessories matters more than individual flourishes.
Explore: lapel, cloth, contrast facing, shirt front, trouser line and dress code.
04 / The evening jacket +
A separate jacket allows more latitude for colour and material than a formal suit. Its success depends on pairing and proportion, not embellishment alone.
Explore: velvet or suitable textured cloth, a rich but controlled palette, pairing with formal trousers.
05 / Separates & layered Indian dressing +
For smaller gatherings, a tailored Nehru jacket, considered kurta silhouette or layered separates may feel more relevant. We can discuss how individual pieces continue to live beyond the event.
Explore: proportions, layering, collar, occasion-appropriate handwork and rewear potential.
The thoughtful detail
Cloth first. Surface second.
Embroidery and embellishment are decisions about scale, placement and texture. They should sit naturally within the whole garment. Feasibility and specific techniques are agreed during the individual design process; a category page is not a guarantee of every construction or craft being available.
